RCY Thrummed Mittens
This pattern is the only one you need! With five sizes and three gauge options, you can knit a pair for every member of your family. You’ll need approximately 200m of a medium weight yarn to make the smaller sizes and up to 400m of a medium weight yarn for the bigger sizes. You’ll also need approximately 50g of wool roving (unspun wool) for the thrums.
We have used a range of double pointed needles from 3.5mm for the Fleece Artist kits to 4.0 - 5.0 mm for larger weight yarns such as Cascade 220, Malabrigo Rios and Rowan Pure Wool Worsted. Choose any yarn you like, make a gauge swatch to find the needle size that gets you 4, 5 or 6 stitches/inch and a firm density of stitches and away you go.
These mittens are knit in the round on double pointed needles. Never thrummed before? This pattern includes a step-by-step photo insert with thrumming “how tos” as well as a link to a video with thrumming instructions.
