This garter stitch shawl is designed to take advantage of fingering weight gradient sets, paired with a complimentary colour. It is easy to knit, and the result is striking and luxurious! It is worked in sections, which are are joined as you go. There is no seaming or picking up stitches.

The gradient sections of the shawl are designed to use close to equal amounts in each of 5 colours. However, the colour changes can be altered to suit your preferences and/or available yarn amounts. Alternatively, a self striping yarn can be substituted for the entirety of these sections. It would also look great with the gradient sections knit in 2-row 2-colour stripes.

You will require approximately 1110 yards (1000 m) of the main colour, and a total of 450 yards (400 m) of contrast colours. The sample uses about 90 yards (80 m) in each of 5 contrast colours, supplied in a Julie Asselin Leizu Fingering gradient set. SweetGeorgia Party of Five has the same yardage and would be a great substitute.

Gauge is not critical but will affect the finished size and yarn quantities.
