Piccolo Pyrus, this cowl, is the little sister of the Pyrus shawl.

Back in spring, I sat under a blooming magnolia tree. The elongated, pear-shaped flowers were amazingly abundant and quite fascinating in their form and colours. This inspired me to design the Piccolo Pyrus cowl in which a lace pattern with a pear-shaped form, opening and closing, takes centre stage. The cowl features an asymmetric patterning with a lace edging reminiscent of petals opening to the skies. This creates two different borders: a wavy lower edge and an upper edge with small crests. The Piccolo Pyrus cowl is perfect for some precious hand-dyed skeins that will showcase the lace pattern to its best with their subtle colour variations. Wrap your neck warm and in style during the cold season!

Yarn
Chestnut Cabin Merino Yak Silk DK (DK, 60% Merino, 20% Yak, 20% Silk, 212 m / 232 yards per 100 grams); 2 skeins; sample uses 148 grams in colour Roses are Red.

Needles
3.5 mm (US size 4) 80 cm / 32 inches circular needles or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge
19 stitches and 27 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch, unblocked.
17.8 stitches and 21.2 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Pattern B, blocked.
16 sts and 18 rows = 9.5 cm / 3.75 inches wide and 8.5 cm / 3.35 inches tall over one repeat box (shown in red) of stitch Pattern B, blocked.
Note: obtaining the gauge given is not crucial but will affect the finished size and the yardage needed.

Notions
Stitch markers: 1 in colour A (beginning of round marker), 11 in colour B (optional). Tapestry needle. Blocking pins, (optional: blocking wires).

Size
One; easily customisable.

Final Measurements
Circumference (c) 111 cm / 43.75 inches, height (h) 38 cm / 15 inches.

Skill level
Basic stitches, increases, (double) decreases (video tutorials given). Stitch pattern requiring some attention. Patterning on all rounds. Elastic BO (video tutorial given). Video tutorials are provided for the stitches and techniques used.
