Octility MKAL
Welcome to the 2023 Anniversary Mystery Knit Along with All Wound Up Yarn Shop!
Octility is a shawl with simple stitches, designed to allow the yarn to take center stage. It features assigned pooling yarn - specially dyed in a way to give 12-14” lengths of color that contrast with the rest of the skein. These sections are worked in a different way to highlight the pooling color.
AWU partnered with Asylum Fibers to create the most gorgeous kits for this project. We have 8 Assigned/Planned pooling colors to choose from, and dozens of solids/tonals to pair with them. See the photos for color pairing suggestions. We highly encourage you to use this fabulous yarn! Purchase your yarn on our shopping website: https://shop.allwoundupyarnshop.com
Octility was originally written as a “MYSTERY” shawl, but is now sold as a single download with photos.
Skill Level: Adventurous Beginner. You should know how to knit and purl, and be open to learning new techniques. Video tutorials are included with the pattern.
Needles/Notions:
US size 5 (3.75mm) circular needles in 24, 32, and 40” lengths, 2.5mm (C2) crochet hook,
needle tip stoppers,
stitch markers, and blocking materials.
Yarn: 2 skeins Asylum Fibers Smooth Sock
(1 solid/tonal and 1 Assigned Pooling in colors with some contrast.
(75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon; 463yds/100g)
This pattern can be done without assigned pooling yarn, but the AP technique will not be possible. In this case, you will need 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn with at least 435 yards each. Work pattern as written, omitting AP techniques throughout. I suggest solids or lightly speckled yarns with some contrast.
Gauge: 24 sts/32 rows over 4” in stockinette st after blocking. While gauge is not critical, working at a larger gauge will result in using more yarn than listed.
