Nereid is one of the patterns of 2018 Progress, Hope, & Happiness Collection (all patterns are sold individually).

The Nereids are sea nymphs, symbolizing everything that is beautiful and kind about the sea. They were represented as very beautiful girls, dressed in silk robes trimmed with gold.
The shawl features rows of golden spirals on a blue background, similar to sea foam. Wearing this shawl will make you feel like a real sea nymph!

The spirals are small colorful modules worked using just one color at a time and joined seamlessly while knitting. They are arranged in groups worked sideways.
Joining areas are worked to join the groups of spirals between them (again with no seaming), with perpendicular lines that link one spiral from a group to another from the other group. These golden lines give a different movement to the design, reminiscent of the wake of a ship.
Nereid is a shawl worked in simple garter stitch and still it looks so complex!

Finished size: 47” / 120 cm width and 60” / 152 cm length.
Size is easily customizable using different yarn weight and needle sizes.

Gauge:
20 sts and 44 rows = 10 cm 4” in Garter stitch with MC.
Gauge is not critical for this project.

Yarn
MC: Neighborhood Fiber Co Rustic Fingering Gradient (100% Superwash Merino; 475 yds 434 meters/100 grams) Col. Shade of Lapis, a complete set (1250 yards), total yardage used approx. 1100 yds.
Note: This is a Gradient set. Each set includes 5 mini skeins (60 grams, approx. 250 yards each). The different Shades are named A, B, C, D and E.

CC: Neighborhood Fiber Co Rustic Fingering (100% Superwash Merino; 475 yds [434 meters]/100 grams) Col. Oliver, total yardage used approx. 300 yds.
Needles:
3.25 mm /US 3 * 24”60 cm circular for Spirals, 32” 80 cm for Joining Areas.
