Moving Forward is a top down shawl using a gradient set of yarns but it is not a fade. It is not suitable for a single gradient yarn, you will need to use separate skeins, and it is a Boo without beads!
Designed to be worked in four colours with with the ability to work a five-colour shawl; an alternative ending has been written into the pattern to do this. This shawl can be knit in almost any quality fingering weight yarn. What about Miss Babs Sojourn Fingering or Lichtfaden Cashmere Silk for a totally sumptuous and luxurious shawl. Lichtfaden Pure Silk, DyeDianaDye SilkenSea or Handmaiden SeaSilk would be fabulous and slinky, Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, Skein Queen Wriggle, Walk Collection Cozy Merino Fingering or Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles would be comfy, Lichtfaden Silk/Merino, The Uncommon Thread Posh Fingering, Posh Yarns Miranda, Triskelion Yarns Heulwen 4ply or Walk Collection Luxe Fingering would be cosy and DyeDianaDye FlaxenSilk {f4} would be summery – the list is almost endless and you can choose whichever fingering weight yarn you fancy to create the shawl in a mood to suit you! You could even knit this out of your left-over yarn from other projects – just make sure all of the yarns you use are the same base and each colour will work with every other colour!
Size: As written 72” (183cm) wide, 18” (45cm) deep before blocking and 77” (196cm) wide, 19” (48cm) deep after. Measurements taken using DyeforYarn CashSilk Fingering and given as a guide only. Final measurements will depend on yarn used, tension and blocking.
You will not need full skeins of every colour - I used: 36.6g of Yarn A, 24.26g of Yarn B, 43.19g of Yarn C and 73g of Yarn D (267m) – you could, however, use a fifth colour – one even darker than Yarn D as Yarn E and an alternative edge is shown within the pattern.
You will find it very useful to print your pattern on a colour printer or mark yarn changes in coloured pencils.
