Monsoon Rain
Estonian gathered stitches as rain, trickling down a window pane. A deluge uniting earth and sky. Monsoon rain features a variety of relatively simple textured stitch patterns worked in bands, culminating in an eye catching lace border. Choose complimentary colours for an elegant wrap, or contrasting colours for a statement piece. This shawl would be equally lovely in a single colour of your favourite lace or fingering weight yarn.
Yarn
Colour One: Kettle Yarn Co. Hythe Laceweight (kid mohair and silk): One skein or approximately 277 metres / 303 yards of laceweight yarn.
Colour Two: Kettle Yarn Co. Beyul Singles Fingering Weight (Yak down, Silk & Merino): One skein or approximately 440 metres / 481 yards of fingering weight yarn.
Single Coloured Version: Because this shawl features sections of differing texture, a single coloured version is an attractive option. The amount of yarn required differs depending on whether you choose a lace weight, or fingering weight yarn. You will require approximately 720 - 760 metres (787 - 831 yards) of yarn.
Shawl Name
Naming designs is often difficult, and I thought it would be fun to ask members of my Ravelry group to come up with names for this shawl. Many wonderful names were suggested, but this name, Monsoon Rain, offered by long time test knitter and lace shawl knitter extraordinaire Opipipio, suited the mood of this shawl rather well. Opipipio commented how the Estonian gathered stitch sections looked like rain trickling down a window pane, and I think she’s right. Thank you Opi - I’m so glad I met you on Ravelry.
