From the pattern description: “From the heavily forested Halland area of Sweden comes the Ullard jersey worn by loggers in the nineteenth century. These sweaters were tightly knit and renowned for their warmth and wind resistance. The body was patterned in small diagonals and was framed by a small border. The wearer’s initials and the date the sweater was made were often knit into the cuff or sweater body. Typically, the sweater was made with black and white wool, then felted to size and overdyed red. These mittens incorporate the traditional patterns of Halland’s lumberjack jerseys. The cuffs may be worked in corrugated ribbing or in stockingette stitch with a block for initials.”
