Melting Marl Scarf
This pattern is included for free with my workshop called Colorplay the Westknits Way: Marling. This online workshop is available to purchase on westknits.com and you can watch it at any time at your own pace.
This rectangular scarf is the perfect stash buster. Always hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together or mix in some lace weight mohair silk or suri alpaca yarns too. The instructions include detailed notes on how to blend your leftover yarns and single skeins together to achieve smooth melted color transitions. Choose between a classic narrow scarf size or follow instructions for the wide wrap as you melt and fade you colors together. There are three simple textures and chevron/wave variations repeated throughout the fabric to keep you engaged and motivated to reach each new section. Make the scarf as long as you want and enjoy knitting this wearable work of art!
Sizes
Narrow Scarf (Wide Wrap)
Length is customizable.
Sample shown in the Wide Wrap size.
Finished Measurements
92 (92)″ / 234 (234)cm long, 13 (21)″ / 33 (53)cm wide. Measurements taken after blocking.
Yarn
Fingering weight
Yardage
The Wide Wrap sample used approximately 800g of yarn total.
You will need about 400g of each strand.
If you have 600g of yarn, then that is enough to knit the Narrow Scarf.
Gather more yarn than you think you will need, so you have plenty of colors to choose from. If you have a pile with about 1000 – 1200g of colorful options, then you will have more than enough yarn to knit the wide wrap.
Shown in
A variety of fingering weight wool and lace weight mohair silk yarns
Hold 2 strands of fingering weight together or hold 1 strand of fingering weight + 2 strands of lace weight together.
Needles
US 8 / 5mm circular in 32″ / 80cm length or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions
Tapestry needle
Gauge
18 sts & 32 rows = 4″ / 10cm in garter stitch before blocking
