Margalit
The edging of this shawl combines lace and cables for a striking texture that really shines in a hand-dyed yarn. The shawl is worked from side to side, and it’s easy to adjust the shawl’s width based on how much yarn you have. Increases and decreases in the garter stitch section gently shape the shawl, while a faux i-cord edging along the top makes it easy to block. The cabled lace edging is both written and charted.
The following skills/stitches are used this pattern:
- knits and purls
- slipped stitches
- basic knit decreases (k2tog and ssk)
- yarnovers
- simple four-stitch cables
Because of the way the shawl is constructed, any amount or weight of yarn may be substituted. Be aware, however, that because the edging contains both cables and lace, a yarn with some wool content is recommended because it will allow the shawl to hold its blocking and allow the cables to pop.
Notions needed: one stitch marker, yarn needle to weave in ends, cable needle, yarn scale (optional; helpful if you’re changing the weight or amount of yarn used and you want to maximize your yarn usage)
