Peckish
This shawl is the perfect thing when you want something a little more exciting than plain garter stitch (but not too much of a challenge) and something warm without having to commit to a whole sweater.
Worked from the top down, beginning with a garter tab, this shawl features stripes incorporating short rows using wrap and turn (w&t). Because of the nature of garter stitch, however, wraps blend in easily and do not need to be picked up on subsequent rows. Because of the way the stripes alternate, it is easy to make the shawl larger or smaller to accommodate your yarn supply. The bottom edge of the shawl is finished with a picot bind off.
To knit this shawl, you will need to know how to do the following skills:
- Picking up stitches from the side of a garter tab and along a cast on edge
- Directional increases (m1L and m1R)
- Cable cast on
- Wrap and turn (w&t) for short rows
You will need approximately 405 yards/370 meters of each of two different colors to complete this shawl as well as a yarn needle to weave in your ends and four stitch markers.
Finished dimensions: approximately 60 in./152.5 cm wide at top edge and 25 in./63.5 cm deep at center
