Mai Sweater
Mai Sweater is an easy going but still fashionable sweater with ¾ sleeves. It’s perfect for spring time although you can use it through the entire year just by layering clothes.
The shape is boxy: it’s wide enough to combine with a t-shirt or a blouse and it flatters your body. The real trick is in cuffs. Fold the cuffs with bands and buttons so the measurements of the sweater stay nicely in balance.
If you want, you can add a fade for the sweater. That’s how knitting is fun and addictive when all you want to see is the next color. I’ve knit my Mai with 3 colors but you can use as many colors as you wish. The pattern includes the instructions and tips for a smooth fade that works best when it’s used for lightly speckled yarn. Of course you can fade with semisolid yarns too but then you see stripes – and that can be a cool effect too.
Mai sweater is knit from the top down seamlessly. First you cast on stitches provisionally, join in round and knit the yoke. Then you divide the sleeves and body and leave the sleeve stitches on hold. Knit the body, then sleeves and finally finish the neckline and add the bands to the cuffs.
