There are spinners who claim art yarn isn’t suitable to create wearable clothes or accessories. I have never believed that and love to create fun things!

If you have spun your lock yarn with a short distance between the locks, your cowl will look like a sheepskin. When the distance between the locks is larger, feel free to add some crocheted or felted flowers, if there are gaps you don’t like. Or use variegated colors of locks. Be creative!

Materials

  • Approximately 55 yards (50 m) lockspun yarn made from about 4 ounces (110g) Wensleydale locks, 4-5 inches (10-12.5 cm) long, one 1.5 ounce (40g) carded batt and about 140 yards (128 m) core/plying thread
  • Approximately 44 yards (40 m) spiral-plied yarn without locks made from about 1 ounce (30g) carded batt and about 110 yards (100 m) core/plying thread
  • US 8 (5mm) needle for cuff (worked with spiral plied yarn without locks)
  • US 10 (6mm) needle for body (worked with lockspun yarn)
  • One 1 inch/2.5cm-diameter button, tapestry needle

Gauge
11 sts and 23 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) in ribbing with smaller needles and spiral-plied yarn
