Now picture this: the windswept landscapes of the island of Texel, where sheep graze amidst rolling dunes.
In the Netherlands, over a million kilograms of wool go to waste each year. But with Daphne, a shepherdess, and the support of the Knit on Texel retreat 2024, we set out to change that. Through experimentation and collaboration, we crafted a unique, locally sourced yarn that pays homage to Texel’s heritage.
Enter the Link Mitts: a tribute to ‘Vrolijk Garen’ (cheerful yarn) and a symbol of sustainable fashion. While designed to showcase this special yarn, these mitts are versatile enough to embrace any fiber, inviting knitters everywhere to join us in a celebration of craftsmanship and community. Whether it’s Vrolijk Garen or your favorite yarn, the Link Mitts promise warmth, style, and a connection to a story of resilience and innovation.

To further support Daphne and express my gratitude to the knitting community, I’m offering the pattern for the Link mitts for free. Enjoy!

Since the creation of the yarn was an experiment, we produced a very limited quantity, most of which was sold during the KnoT retreat. If you are interested in purchasing the last skeins of Daphne’s yarn, you are welcome to contact her directly.
