This Tunisian eyelet lace crochet pattern is my favorite way to crochet with fancy tube yarns that can be lumpy in other crochet stitches.

I call the stitch pattern Tunisian Wicker. It’s a combination of Tunisian stitches that are familiar to those who have already ventured to stitches beyond Tunisian Simple Stitch, such as the yarn-over, slip stitch, and twisted stitches.

For a view of this Tunisian lace pattern in a lace weight mohair yarn, see the award winning Weightless Tunisian Wrap. View all of my Tunisian crochet patterns here.

Skill Level: Intermediate. This pattern combines Tunisian crochet stitches, and lesser-known regular crochet stitches, in new ways. There is no shaping (the edging automatically does the shaping). I’ve kept pattern abbreviations to a minimum.

After following this pattern you will know (if you didn’t already):

  • How easy it is to create a special occasion shrug
  • A simple way and a fancy way to turn a rectangle into a quick sweater
  • How to do the Twisted Tunisian Slip Stitch
  • A stylish way to use unique fashion tube, net, and tape yarns
  • A versatile new Tunisian stitch pattern
  • The structural relationship between Tunisian stitches and linked stitches
  • How simple blocking can transform Tunisian lace.

Finished Dimensions

Pattern includes tips for customizing the fit. Liebling is designed to be close-fitting.

Choose a yarn that lists a needle or hook size range of F/5/3.75 mm - G/7/4.50 mm.
For evening, a shimmery yarn with drape brings out the luxe look of the fine lacy texture. A cozy merino wool, fine acrylic blend, or smooth plant-based yarn would emphasize a vintage “shoulderette” look and daytime/casual styling.
