Ladies Silk Stockings with Clocks
(from Nancy Bush’s pattern description):
The original instructions call for a true stocking with a 24" (61 cm) leg. My version is similarly elegant in design, but the shortened length is more suitable for the twenty-first century. I’ve used the clock patterns from Volume 8, Twenty -secind Series, of Weldon's Practical Knitter, an entire issue dedicated to knitting numerals, letters, small figures, and clocks (originally spelled "clox") into stockings. I have followed the suggestion for 5" (12.5) long clocks and have worked them as recommended, using a length of the contrasting color for the clock stitches on one round, and bringing the contrast yarn across the back of the clocks section (leaving short floats) into position to work the clocks stitches on th next round. This stocking has a French Heel and ends in a French Toe.
