Lacymmetry
This pattern is
available from payhip.com
for $7.00.
Lacymmetry is an asymmetrical triangle shawl with lace designed to fit in its particular shape. Because of the shaping, I decided to play with a method I devised for designing permutations of three stitches. After using dice to come up with the basis for the diamond lace, I tweaked the decreases to make it flow.
The resulting shawl is elegant and modern looking.
Size:
- Sample is 55 inches (140cm) wide and 17.5 inches (45cm) deep.
Gauge:
- Sample gauge is 29 stitches and 40 rows over 4 inches (10cm) in vertical stripes lace section. Work your shawl at a gauge that suits your yarn.
Materials needed:
- Sample used 610 yards (558m) of Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca/Silk, a lace weight yarn. Pattern is written with guidance for adjusting to different quantities of yarn. Pattern can be worked in lace weight, fingering weight, or sport weight yarn, but will need different yardage depending on the yarn weight and desired shawl size.
- US size 4 needles (3.5mm), or needles to make a fabric you like with your yarn. Sample was made on a 40 inch (100cm) circular needle.
- A stitch marker for marking the edge of the second lace pattern.
- Yarn needle for working in ends and seaming.
- Blocking wires are recommended for this shawl.
Techniques:
- You need to know how to knit, purl, yarn over, decrease, work double yarnovers, and work a stretchy bind-off. Sample is bound off with Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off.
- Instructions are charted and written. A schematic is provided.
