Kokon Lace Shawl
Crochet pattern for a lightweight luxurious lace shawl.
I keep hearing so many people are afraid of lace yarn, for many reasons :
- the yarn is so thin
- maybe the yarn will break ?
- it is probably really hard and difficult to crochet with lace yarn
- it takes forever to finish a project …
This kokon lace shawl prooves lace crochet is definitely worth trying.
Starting at the bottom point, you will work your way up and row after row, your shawl with get bigger. An easy to memorize stitch pattern with simple increases, a lovely shell edging on the side that is worked at once, resulting in a lovely soft and beautiful ‘dense fabric’ shawl body.
The lace part is so much fun too : easy to memorize pattern row repeats, and fully written instructions with charts included. (available in English, both UK and US crochet terms, and in Dutch).
While making this shawl design, you will notice lace yarn is actually quite strong, it does not work up that slowly either, and the result is stunning !
Yarn used for the sample : Kokon Alpaca Lace, 100 % baby alpaca, 100g/800m/875m, shade Stone. (I used 1,2 skeins).
Measurements of the sample shawl : 225cm/88.5in wingspan and 125cm/49.25in deep.
Measurements of the shawl with 1 skein : 200cm/78.75in wingspan and 106cm/41.75in deep.
Tested and edited.
Tip : I designed ‘Marling into Darkness Shawl’ using the same marvellous Kokon Lace yarn. You can make both shawl designs with 3 skeins of the yarn : 2 x shade Stone and 1 x shade Ink.
