A capelet is a short, sleeveless cape that covers the shoulders and often the upper back and chest. It is a decorative accessory, popular for both casual and formal wear, and can be made from various materials like lace, faux fur, or knit fabrics
This would be the perfect layering piece when you want a little something to chase away the chil. It can be worn with a t-shirt and leggings for a casual look or your favorite dress to add that extra something without adding a lot of bulk.
This capelet is made using a growing spiral rib stitch. The pattern starts with k3, p3, and grows to k11, p11. The pattern is worked though the marker meaning when you encounter the marker, just slip it and continue where you left off. The exception to this is when increase rounds are being worked. For those rounds there are stitch counts given before and after marker to help you keep track of where you are in the pattern and when to work the make 1 stitches.
The technique used to make new stitches is not important as long as you maintain the k or p stitch as indicated so that the rib stitch will not be interrupted. Lifted increases are recommended as they create a nearly invisible new stitch. Links are provided for each technique.
A simple yo, k2tog lace is used around the neck and bottom as an accent. The bottom triangle edge is created using short rows that do not require any special technique to avoid holes. The holes are part of the design. If you prefer, you may use any technique you wish to hide those holes.
Because this is a free pattern I am the only test knitter and it has not been tech edited by a professional. If you find any errors or unclear instructions please let me let me know! I appreciate your help with this.
