Wavy columns make their way out like the rays of a distant sun. In a swirl of subtle color changes, light bounces off the surface, creating an infinite number of shades of blue. Steel blue. A cool, calm, silvery tone punctuated by subtle touches of teal and orchid, as if iridescent. Moondust, or so it seems. Softly mysterious, fascinating, ever changing.
The Iradium shawl features a slightly textured lace pattern with undulating columns of yarn-overs and meandering spines formed by decreases. The shawl curls as the lace pattern extends outwards, and the lacy rays finally broaden into a softly geometric edging.
Indulge and wrap yourself in delicate, silvery moonlight.

This shawl was first published as part of The Woolen Rabbit Yarn Club. The Woolen Rabbit Yarn Club runs with a yearly theme, and this time it was “Women in history”. When thinking about the theme and about which woman I would select, Marie Curie came up as my first idea almost directly. The Iradium shawl is inspired by her research in physics and chemistry.

For best effect, use a smooth, round yarn with reasonable stitch definition. Yarn weights ranging from Fingering to Worsted would be suitable. As for colorways, I would recommend solid, semi-solid, speckled, or gradient (single skein or gradient set) yarns.
