Impunity
Impunity is a versatile hat pattern, suitable for anyone -- whether newborn babies, husbands, growing-too-fast children, preemies, or dolls. Try making one in each size, with different colourways! They become quite addictive, and they make great gifts.
A special note on sizing:
I’ve noticed, while browsing through the project photos, that some of you are having trouble with the hat being too short. It looks like I haven’t explained the repeats very well. To clarify, replace the instruction “Continue in ribbing as established until 6 (8, 9, 11-12) repeats are completed, ending after a 4th round knit,” with the following:
Repeat Rounds 11 - 18 5 (7, 8, 10-11) times more.
What that will look like in our knitting is that there will be a total of 6 (8, 9, 11-12) purl ridge / knit groove sections completed before you even begin the crown shaping. Notice how, in the photos at the left, you can actually count how many purl ridges are showing. If you don’t have that many repeats, the hat will be too short.
And remember, the knit and purl ridges make the fabric nice and springy. They’re essentially vertical ribbing. If you’re worried the hat will still be too short for your recipient, feel free to add an extra repeat of Rounds 11 - 18.

Pink/orange hat is knit with Shibui Sock, colour “Roppongi.”
Grey/blue/purple hat is Cascade Yarns Heritage Paints.
