Iconic Om Illusion
I rarely create illusion designs that other people ask for but someone asked for help designing this traditional Om symbol. Because it was small, and she caught me at a time when I wasn’t designing anything else, I decided to do it myself.
Om is a sacred sound, and spiritual icon, in many Indian religions. It is also referred to as onkara, omkara and pranava. The symbol used in this pattern is the most common form. It is the way it is written in Devanagari, Gujarati, Sourashtri and Historical Marathi Script. It looks slightly different when written in other languages.
The photos show the pattern worked in DMC Petra 5 Crochet Cotton. It requires approximately 60 metres white and 40 metres black, and measures 20 cm (8”) square.
Any yarn could be used though this would change the overall size. Using DK it would take approximately 110 metres white and 70 metres black and be 30 cm (12”) square.
It is shown mounted on a board, hanging on the wall, but could be used in many other ways.
I am always willing to help someone create their own illusion design. PM me if you need help, or refer to the tutorials on The World of Illusion Knitting web site.
