Houndstooth Cowl and Hat
Please note, this pattern is offered for free when you purchase the Houndstooth Sweater!
Use the same yarn and needles as you did for your sweater to make a matching cowl and hat to complete the look! I have mixed up the colours a little bit, just to give it a slight visual difference. The cowl is knit in the round from the top down, gradually making a few increases to give it a funnel-shape, which helps it sit nicely on the shoulders. The beenie-style hat is knit from the bottom up, with decreases made at the crown of the hat to give it its shape.
If you’re new to Fair Isle knitting, this might be the project to start with, before you make the sweater, as it’s an easier small-scale project, but the techniques are exactly the same.
Materials
For the cowl ribbing:
1 x pair of size 2.75 mm (US 2, UK 12) straight needles
For the hat ribbing:
1 x set of 2.75 mm (US 2, UK 12) dpns OR circular needle if using the magic loop method
For the main fabric:
1 x size 3 mm (US 2.5, UK 11) circular needle 80 cm long (for the hat, a 60 cm needle is recommended, or you can use the magic loop method).
