Inspired by the pure, undyed local wool of the Normandy coast, and a desire to use up leftover yarns from previous projects, the Diabolo Cardigan gets its name from a popular French children’s drink which mixes different flavours together. Mismatched sides, back piece and sleeves, along with random stripes of that one colour you have left in your oddments box, assure a completely unique result for everyone who knits it! The cropped body is balanced out with long, sleeves. Both body and sleeves have plenty of positive ease and are gently tapered, giving you a flattering silhouette, that doesn’t cling.

Sizing
XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL)

Finished bust circumference: 102 (108, 113.5, 124.5, 130, 136.5, 148, 159) cm.

Designed to fit with about 20 cm of positive ease. When choosing your size: see the “To fit bust” column in the schematic which refers to your actual bust circumference (see photo 2).

C o n s t r u c t i o n
Knit from the top down, you will cast on the back neck and shoulders with your Main Colour (MC), then introduce your leftover colours (CC) as you start to knit the colour work patterns flat. The motifs are kept simple so that they are easy as possible to knit on the Wrong Side (WS). The front shoulders are then picked up and knit in turn in the same way, shaping the front neck as you go. The sleeves are picked up from the shoulder edges and knit in the round to the cuff, decreasing evenly as you go.

Aran by Laines à L’Ouest
100grams = 170 metres,
or any Aran-weight yarn in one colour.

300 (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600, 650) grams of MC.

Oddments of 10-20 colours in fingering yarn, held double.

Designer note: as a Fair Isle knitter, I have a lot of leftover fingering yarn and used these, held double, for my CC colours, amongst DK and Aran weights. The differences in weight can seem tricky, but I found it all evened out with blocking and adapting my tension slightly at times.
