This unique stitch makes a neat, textured fabric. This is a versatile pattern that can be repeated multiple times across the row, making a wider scarf than is pictured. The edges fold under the scarf, creating an interesting edge.

Yarn: A wool, DK-weight yarn would work best; the sample used a 14 WPI yarn. You could use an acryllic yarn, but the testers found that acrylic doesn’t bring out the texture as well. For the scarf pictured, I used two skeins of New Zealand Eco Merino DK (50gms=140 yards). The scarf is 7” at the widest point (when you uncurl the edges) and is about 39” long, unblocked.

Needles: US4 (3.5mm)

Each diamond is 3” wide, measuring from left to right (from the tip of one diamond to the tip of the next diamond). Each diamond is 3.25” tall.

You can work this scarf in one of two ways…
1) If you knit from start to finish, use Charts A and B. The “scales” will be right-side up on one half and up-side down on the other half. Also, the bindoff will be wavy on the cast-on edge and flat on the bind-off edge.

2) If you knit two scarves and join them in the middle, use Charts A and C. Use Chart A until you’re satisfied with the length of both halves. Then knit Chart C on only one of the two halves to make the diamond’s center ridge. The second scarf will be plain (there will be no center ridge on the diamond). To join, you could either graft the two ends together using a Kitchener graft or do a “three-needle bindoff”.
