I worked this cowl with two strands of DK-weight yarn held together. Worsted should be roughly the same weight.

I used two patterns, mistake rib and the four-cable stitch. I didn’t like how many purl stitches ended up on the right side of the pattern so flipped one to be a knit. I had to remember on the purl side to start on the correct purl In the end, the pattern turned out to be:

mistake rib (k2, p2 for 16 stitches then k3 at the end (19 sts) on the purl side it’s p1, k1, p2 and then it’s k2, p2 until you end up with a p1.

p3 on the purl side it’s k3

four-cable stitch (k3, p1, k3, p1, k3, p1, k3) in the middle (15 stitches). When I got to five purl stitches, I crossed the middle right behind and crossed the right ends in front.

p3 on the purl side it’s k3

mistake rib (k2, p2 for 16 stitches then k2, p1 at the end (19 sts) on the purl side it’s k2, p2 until you end up with a p1.

I used two yarns doubled to make this, one was handspun angora rabbit and the other was manufactured sheep wool (to help with elasticity).

It took me five tries to graft the beginning to the end; I used waste yarn to cast on with a provisional CO, inserted the needle in the stitches and ran a brown waste thread through those stitches so they wouldn’t get lost. I did the same with the other end. Matching up the ribs took a little figuring out as did the direction of the knits and purls due to the double moss stitch. For help with grafting, look at this tutorial.

The purple detail is crocheted on the edge… A little splash of color on a beautiful angora/wool cowl!
