Modern-day nursuries often center around a fantastic area rug. Little fingers love texture, and our eyes and hands can certainly appreciate it, too. In this pattern I looked to emulate one of my favorite area rug trends: tufted, geometric shapes and high-relief textures, paired with a fringe edge.

790 (3040) yards / 722 (2780) meters of worsted weight yarn, including fringe; 775 (3010) yards / 709 (2752) meters without fringe.

If replacing with another yarn, look for something that has a round and plump strand; the loose gauge of this blanket keeps it soft and cuddly, but in a less structured yarn the texture will be lost. A multi-plied yarn also ensures less unraveling for your fringe and a piece that will hold up as a hand-me-down. I would consider Germantown to be a lighter worsted weight, so it’s easy to replace with a thicker DK weight yarn.
