Heartstrings Cowl
Hi Folks!
Thanks for checking out the Heartstrings Cowl! Although ‘heart strings’ are actual anatomical structures (fibrous tissues that connect valves and muscles in the heart), this cowl’s name takes a more literal approach. Like its cousin, the Heartstrings Shawl, this pattern uses simple two-stitch cables and slipped stitches to create geometric hearts…on strings. The slightly tedious heart section is balanced by a nice, relaxing garter-stitch base, making this cowl a good fit even for novice knitters looking to develop their skills.
Like this pattern? Feel free to check out the Heartstrings Shawl! If you buy both (or have already bought one), you’ll automatically get $2 off at checkout. No discount code needed.
Here’s a quick summary of the pattern based on the original sample:
Dimensions:
-- 18 in (46 cm) in height
-- 24 in (61 cm) in circumference
-- Please note that the pattern is adjustable for other dimensions
Yarn Requirements:
-- 400 meters of DK-weight yarn
-- 2 skeins of Feisty Fibres Defiant DK in the Rebel colorway were used in the sample shown
Needles:
-- 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles (16-inch recommended)
Gauge:
-- 23 sts by 38 rows = 4 in by 4 in (10 cm by 10 cm) in garter stitch after washing and laying flat to dry
Other Materials:
-- Stitch marker
-- Cable needle (optional)
-- Tapestry needle to weave in ends
-- Scrap yarn for provisional cast on (optional)
Also, I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Amber, Amelia, Debbie, Emily, Lars, Marja, Shanda, and Sonia for test knitting the cowl! Check out their versions of the cowl in the projects section.
Please note that as this pattern was adapted from a previous pattern of mine, it has not been formally edited by a technical editor at this time.
Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Reach out! I’ll do my best to respond back as quickly as I can. If I don’t get back to you right away, please forgive me! I probably have my nose buried in a book for grad school.
