Fall is hands-down my favourite time of year, I love hot apple ciders, cozy sweaters, and visits to the pumpkin patch! Combining all these cozy Fall comforts into one design, the richly textured body and oversized collar of the Hayride crochet shrug make this the perfect Autumn layering piece to keep you warm and cozy this season!

Level of Difficulty:
This is a Beginner/Easy pattern. It assumes beginner level knowledge of basic crochet stitches and provides written instructions for extended hdc and working in third loop, as well as photo tutorials for the construction. The fit is intended to be comfy and oversized but is also very customisable; use the finished measurements below to choose your ideal fit.
Model has a 32” bust, wearing size XS-S.
Materials:
Size 4/medium worsted yarn (Furls Wander) in two colors: Meadow and Thatch
5.5 mm (US I-9) crochet hook
yarn needle
scissors
stitch markers
Yardage (Updated):
XS-S: Main colour - 650 yds, Contrast colour - 580 yds
M-L: Main colour - 770 yds, Contrast colour - 670 yds
XL-2XL: Main colour - 1100 yds, Contrast colour - 760 yds
3XL-5XL: Main colour - 1200 yds, Contrast colour - 840 yds
Gauge: (worked flat)
Lightly steam blocked, with 5.5 mm hook:
Body: 14 sts x 8.5 rows = 4” (10 cm) in shells
Ribbing: 14 sts x 14 rows = 4” (10 cm) in ribbing
Finished measurements:
XS-S: Body Width 38”, Length 31” (To fit chest 28-34”)
M-L: Body Width 44”, Length 32” (To fit chest 36-42”)
XL-2XL: Body Width 50”, Length 35” (To fit chest 44-50”)
3XL-5XL: Body Width 56”, Length 37” (To fit chest 52-62”)
The largest sizes have progressively smaller ease when laid flat, as the weight of the garment itself has much more stretch when worn than the smaller sizes.
(Please note Body Width does not include the collar as it is intended to lie folded over at chest. Length includes bottom ribbing, but not the top ribbing which is intended to sit folded over at top of neck)
