The Happy Hour Socks are the newest addition to my Happy Hour design series. Worked from the cuff-down in a combination of the stunning Slipped Hourglass Stitch and plain stockinette stitch, these socks promise to be a fun, engaging and satisfying project to work up.

Construction

The Happy Hour Socks are worked from the cuff-down. The leg is worked in the Slipped Hourglass stitch and can be worked to your desired length. The heel is then worked in stockinette stitch and is shaped using German Short Rows. The top of the foot is then worked in Slipped Hourglass Stitch whilst the sole is simultaneously worked in stockinette stitch. The toe is then worked in stockinette stitch and shaped using decreases.

Sizing
S (M, L) to fit a foot circumference measurement of 17.5 (20.5, 23) cm / 7 (8, 9)”, equivalent to US women’s shoe size 4-6.5 (7-9.5, 10-12.5).

Sock is intended to be worn with approx. 2-3.5 cm / 0.75-1.25” of negative ease.

Sock Measurements:
Foot Circumference: 15.5 (17.5, 19.5) cm / 6 (7, 7.75)”
Foot Length: 21.5 (24.5, 27) cm / 8.5 (9.75, 10.75)”
Leg Length: 10 (10, 10, 10, 10) (10, 10, 10, 10) cm / 4 (4, 4, 4, 4) (4, 4, 4, 4)”

Leg length can be adjusted.

Yarn
Daffodil Road, Ultra Soft Sock, 80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon, 100g / 400m (3.5 oz / 437 yds), shown in ‘Frangipani’ colourway.

Any fingering weight sock yarn can be used as long as you match gauge.

I recommend using either a solid or low contrast variegated colourway for this pattern, to ensure the hourglass motif doesn’t get lost.

210 (270, 290) m / 230 (295, 320) yds

If you choose to add length to your sock, you will need to account for approx. an additional 35-45 m / 38-49 yds for every 5 cm / 2.5” added.

Needles
2 mm (US 0) circular needle (cable lengths 23 cm / 9”, OR 80-100 cm / 32-40” (if using magic loop method), OR 5 DPN’s

If using 23 cm / 9” circular needles, you will still need a pair of needles with a longer cord to work the Toe using the magic loop method, or alternatively you can use DPN’s.

Gauge
42 sts x 60 rounds = 10 cm x 10 cm (4” x 4”) in Slipped Hourglass Stitch on 2 mm (US 0) needles, worked in the round, after blocking.
35 sts x 50 rounds = 10 cm x 10 cm (4” x 4”) in stockinette stitch on 2 mm (US 0) needles, worked in the round, after blocking.
