Greek to Me
Many thanks to Ravelry knitters Quackenstein and Mughain for test knitting this pattern!
Greek to Me is a two-color, semi-circular shawl with alternating Eyelet lace and Mosaic pattern panels. Two-color Mosaic patterns are created with slipped stitches and by alternating colors every two rows. Only one color is used for every two rows, and stitches that are slipped on the first (RS) row are slipped again on the second (WS) row for each color.
Please swatch before starting and wash, block, and dry your swatch before measuring. This shawl was designed to use only one 440 yard (400 m) skein of each color. Working a looser gauge may mean running out of yarn.
Using stitch markers every few multiples of the mosaic pattern will help ensure the pattern lines up correctly. Slip all stitches purlwise. On the right side, slip stitches with the working yarn at the back. On the wrong side, slip stitches with the working yarn at the front.
Both the eyelet sections and Mosaic sections are 18 rows tall and both increase total stitch count by 36 sts.
Because slipped stitches vertically compress the colorwork pattern, the mosaic pattern rows are only about half the height of the eyelet lace rows.
When switching colors, carry unused yarn loosely up the edge of the shawl.
This pattern is presented with written instructions only.
The shawl border uses yarnover short rows to create the rounded leaf tops. Other short row techniques are acceptable, but may alter the stitch counts. If in doubt, swatch and test knit a single leaf multiple.
