Golden Leaves
The Golden Leaves socks feature a simple lacy leaf pattern.
The pattern includes stitch charts as well as written directions.
I never tire of lacy leaf patterns. There are so many variations! When Veronica saw the socks, she asked me a couple good questions. First, why is the ribbing so complicated? You know, I thought it looked great at the time, but in retrospect you could simplify this pattern a lot by doing a 1x1 twisted rib instead, and the flow would still line up in all the sizes (except the large). What can I say, I like to make things complicated sometimes! Actually, I wanted to accentuate the midrib part of the leaf more and thought that giving it more purl spacing would do so.
The second question was about why I chose not to mirror the socks.
I like the look of the leaves veering off to the same side on both feet. There’s something about the asymmetry of it that I just love! In any case, if you want to mirror these socks, I suggest doing a 1x1 twisted rib instead of the rib shown for size S or M. For size L, work the following rib instead: (K1 tbl, p2) twice, (k1 tbl, p1) 12 times, (k1 tbl, p2) twice, repeat that all once more to end of round.
After the rib, work the patterning for the first sock just as written. On the second sock, start on row 17 of the chart instead of on row 1. Offsetting the rows by half will give you a mirrored sock.
