Cuttlefish are quite glorious creatures, with spectacular colors that they can change at any time. They have 8 arms, and 2 tentacles, a siphon and a beak mouth.

This is quite a complicated pattern and includes a large number of different techniques - double knitting, picking up stitches, 3 needle bind off, Kitchener stitch, Icord, German Short rows AND w&t, knitting in the round, a little intarsia, several different increases and decreases, BUT very little sewing. This pattern includes so many different techniques that it must be considered an ‘experienced’ level pattern. However, if you just follow through and do each step in turn, and they all come with detailed instructions, you will end up with a glorious Giant Cuttlefish.

Sock or fingering weight yarn.
MC: (mantle color) 100 yds / 92 m Mantle upper side, tentacles and arms 7-8 upper sides
UC: (underside color) 104 yds/ 95 m Mantle and all arm undersides
HC: (head color)70 yds / 64 m Head, fins and arms 1-6 upper sides
BC: (beak color) 2 yds/m beak
Note that cuttlefish have pale undersides.

Gauge is not important at all, as long as you use a needle size to give a tight weave, so that the stuffing does not show through. Gauge on the sample is 28 sts and 36 rows/4” (10 cm). A larger gauge will give a larger finished size and use more yarn.
