Glass Onion is originally designed for fingering yarn with a gradient. You can choose any other yarn weight or brand, but bear in mind that your required yardage might differ. You can adjust the size by using thicker or thinner needles and of course by choosing from one of the three “sizes”: small, medium, and large.

The small version is ideal for bulky, sport, or dk weight, but also if you want to knit a one-skein-wonder with fingering yarn. I used just one Zauberball by Schoppel when knitting the small version for a 59”/150cm wide shawlette with a depth of 7”/18cm. Medium is ideal for sport and fingering weight. I used two balls of Zauberball for a shawl with 70”/178cm width and 10”/25.5cm depth. Large is perfect if you want to knit a fully grown shawl but also if you want to use lace weight yarn. I used a little over2 balls of Zauberball for a 76”/192cm wide shawl with 14”/36cm depth.

Glass Onion is originally designed for Zauberball 100 by Schoppel. You can choose any other yarn with a color gradient and even go for a different weight, but bear in mind that your required yardage and the size of your shawlette might differ. Other possible yarn choices could be Mini Mochi or Sausalito by Crystal Palace Yarns, Noro Sock, Noro Silk Garden Fine, Noro Flower Bed, Lana Grossa Meilenweit, Schoppel Zauberball 100, Schoppel Zauberball Crazy, Schoppel Zauberball 6, Schoppel Edition 3, Schoppel Edition 6, Schoppel Zauberwolle, Nordlys by Viking of Norway, Lang Mille Colori, Poeoms Sock, and many many more.

Glass Onion is a seamless, fun to knit and completely reversible shawlette. It is a modular knit and you will join the modules as you go. All instructions are provided in written and charted form. You will find graphics that explain the architecture and how to join the modules, plus ample photo tutorials on the joining techniques. This makes Glass Onion a feasible project for most knitters. Since the smallest size is a one-skein-wonder, Glass Onion is the ideal shawl to knit as a present for a friend or as a Ravelry downloadable gift.

If you prefer to knit from printouts, you might want to decide which size you want to knit since the pdf includes the instructions for all three sizes!

Do you need a last-minute present for Christmas? Or maybe something more substantial as a special gift for the New Year? Glass Onion offers both possibilities! Contained within the download are instructions for three different sizes! A one-skein-wonder to save your Christmas blushes or two larger sizes to make sure that those closest to you stay warm throughout the winter months!

Glass Onion’s layered design is perfect for all color preferences – beautiful, practical and a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and I wish you all a very happy New Year!
