The Frozen Pond Cowl is all about playing with colors and fun techniques. The top and bottom bands are worked back and forth in two-color brioche stitch—a trendy favorite—and the body is worked in the round in traditional but simple stranded colorwork to entice novices and experts alike.

FINISHED SIZE 23″ circumference at top, 29″ circumference at bottom, and 11.5” high.

YARN Malabrigo Yarn Silky Merino (51% silk, 49% merino wool; 150 yd / 1.75 oz): #429 Cape Cod gray (MC), #434 redwood bark (brown; A), #412 teal feather (B), #410 spring water (light green; C), and #413 Ankara green (light blue; D), 1 skein each.

NEEDLES Sizes 5 (3.75 mm) and 6 (4 mm): 16″ circular. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

NOTIONS Marker; stitch holder; cable needle; waste yarn for tubular CO; tapestry needle.

GAUGE 24 sts and 24 rnds = 4″ in Colorwork patt on larger needle.

NOTES This cowl is worked in the round from the top down.

The top and bottom edgings are worked in two-color brioche rib. The top edging is worked back and forth in two pieces. When finished, they are joined to work in the round, with four decreases at each end so the edgings overlap at the sides.
