FRANK STELLA COWL:
The cowl is designed to be knit sideways. The short row elements create an abstract graphic design. The shapes are reminiscent of works from the “Post- Painterly Abstraction Movement” in American Art. This movement was noted in the mid-1960’s. I named the piece after American Artist, Frank Stella, part of this movement. I admire his work.

YARN:
The Frank Stella Cowl is designed to be knit in DK/light worsted weight yarn. Other yarn weights are possible but will impact your outcome. Adjustments to needle size and other factors that impact gauge should be considered. It may also be knit as a scarf if desired. Please note, that would employ a different Cast On.

NEEDLES & GAUGE:
The pattern works with ANY type/format needles (it is not worked in the round).
I like using rounds with shorter cable, but honestly, I use is whatever I have handy at the time.
COWL uses US 07’s/4.5mm in GARTER STITCH & the short row pattern, before BLOCKING.
20 sts to 4” and 40 Rows to 4”
NOTE, I did not block these cowls. They are meant to have lots of stretch, I dry them flat.

SIZES:
This cowl is knit in GARTER. It will look small and stretch a ton; lots of negative ease.
