Four Seasons Scarf (春夏秋冬)
You recognize spring easier in plants than in people.
- Chinese Proverb
This is a double-knit scarf using Japanese Kanji characters for four
seasons, Haru (春), Natsu (夏), Aki (秋), Fuyu (冬), meaning Spring,
Summer, Fall and Winter, respectively. And the graphic motifs in the middle section tell a story of the changing seasons.
The double thickness shields you from the cold, while the blend of silk provides coolness to the touch. Nature holds a special place in
Japanese culture. Last year, I designed a scarf called Nature Scarf.
The Four Seasons Scarf is a sequel to it, and my interpretation of the great nature.
The pattern comes with 3 options: Half-width (standard or two-pattern double knitting) and Full-width (standard double knitting). While the general pattern instructions are the same for all three versions, the charts and corresponding written instructions (included in separate files) are arranged in the order of difficulty, as follows:
• Half-width (standard double knitting): Reverse side is horizontally flipped
• Full-width (standard double knitting): Reversible
• Half-width (two-pattern double knitting): Reversible
