The cable patterns in this Cardigan remind me of the foliage of the forest, growing from the ground up toward the sky. In the same way, the sweater is worked from the bottom up. The body and sleeves are worked separately to the underarms, where they are joined then worked together to the neck edge while decreasing along the raglan. A welt-like collar is added around the front opening. I choose to keep this as an unfastened sweater, but if you’d prefer to add one button or more, make the collar a little longer and work some three-stitch one-row buttonholes (see Glossary) along the center row of the collar, or add some I-cords to tie the fronts closed (as in the Majestic Tie Cardigan).

Ribbing and Neckband—Size U.S. 9 (5.5 mm): 32” (80 cm) circular (cir) and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
