Sensible Cardigan

The Sensible Cardigan is knit from the top down, which means it’s easy to try on and customize. An elegant lace pattern flows down the back of the sweater, and the rest is knitted in Stockinette stitch. Keep your sleeves short, as shown here, or add some length (see page 54). Or if you’re busty, this sweater is a great template for adding some bust dart shaping (see page 112), to be sure it’s a perfect fit!

DK weight (#3 Light). 
Shown here: Bijou Basin Ranch, Himalayan Trail (75% pure yak, 25% merino; (200 yd 183 m/ 56 g]): natural brown, 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) skeins.
Needles 
Size U.S. 2 (2.75 mm): 16” (40 cm) circu- lar (cir) needle and set of 4 or 5 dou- ble-pointed (dpn). 
Size U.S. 3 (3.25 mm): 32” (80 cm) circu- lar (cir) needle and set of 4 or 5 dou- ble-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions 
Markers (m); holders or waste yarn; tap- estry needle; eleven 1⁄4” (6 mm) buttons.
Gauge 
21 sts and 33 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in St st with larger needles; 19 sts in lace panel = 3” (7.5 cm) with larger needles.
