Feng Shui
This pattern is your friend if you like a challenge in crochet stitches and texture. Feng Shui is based on the art of zen gardening, practiced by many Buddhists and something I first encountered in real life during my travels through Japan. The most beautiful lines and shapes are formed with a hoor in the gravel. Buddhist monks or carekeepers of temples often spend hours creating perfection in those gardens and you will see a result where it seems a natural pattern is created by nature as no footstep is left behind. It has been a great inspiration for me to watch this in real life and so this mandala was created. It will take you hours to complete and needs your entire focus—a meditative process similar to the art of zen gardening.
Some general information about the pattern:
Yarn Requirements: This pattern is made with a gradient type of yarn. For this version, I took a Scheepjes Whirl, which comes in 215-225 grams cakes with a length of 1000 meters of yarn. For my example, I used the Whirl 754 Green Tea Tipple.
It doesn’t matter which type of yarn you take; you will need approx. 900-950 meters of yarn. It also depends on whether crocheting the project into a ring or not – as you will use approximately—50 meters of yarn for attachment into a ring.
Crochet hook needed: I recommend a 3.0mm hook for the Whirl version.
Size: The diameter of the Whirl version will be 75 cm/ 30 inches. A ring is optional; if you like to use one, take the above diameter for a ring. However, it is better to crochet the project first and then decide on the size of a ring.
Although the stitches used in the actual pattern are easy and all regular stitches, the pattern itself can be a bit of a challenge. I recommend you are an experienced crocheter for this pattern, as it is not beginner-friendly.
The pattern doesn’t hold any charts; you get a fully written instruction accompanied by many photos to explain and guide you. The pattern holds certain parts that can’t be charted to explain them.
The pattern is available in English (US) and Dutch. After purchase, you will receive a PDF file to download in all available languages.
