Faultline
Faultline combines all my favourite elements in a shawl :- squishy garter stitch, knit sideways, a shallow shawlette shape that wraps enough so you can wear it as a scarf, and an easy to memorize lace.
It is also fully reversible for maximum versatility.
Faultline is a very quick, easy and unfussy knit that perfectly shows off that special handdyed yarn.
The original yarn for this shawl was Joy of Yarn’s Fibre Alive Merino Mania (320m/100g) which is no longer available. The suggested yarn is Knitsch 100% Merino Sock which is also a high twist sock/fingering weight yarn.
However, this design will work in any 4ply/fingering yarn and is easily adapted for other yarn weights. I made the scarf version in worsted weight and it worked out fine.
This pattern is named for the devastating earthquake which struck Christchurch, New Zealand 5 years ago in February 2011 - my hometown at the time. The city is still being rocked by aftershocks as the slow process of rebuilding continues.
Pattern includes shawlette size plus instructions for making both a scarf and triangle shawl variations. Lace edging is charted and written.
Difficulty: Easy. Suitable for beginner lace knitter.
