Asymmetrical crescent shawl with a half-pi shaped body and lace short rows.

The Falling Slowly shawl starts at the centre edge and is worked as a half-pi shaped shawl. Its double yarn over stitch pattern progress throughout the body of the shawl as snow would be on a calm, snowy day.

The stripy lace border is then worked in German Short Rows. I chose to use two colours to enhance the border, but feel free to use only one to mimic the tranquillity of quiet winter mornings.

Skills: (bolded skills are detailed in the pattern)

• Garter stitch tab Cast-On.
• Lace knitting: basic increases, decreases, simple and double yarn overs.
• German Short rows.
• K2tog BO.

Yardage: 680-720 m / 744-787 yds of fingering
weight yarn with 380-400 m / 416-437 yds in the Main Colour (MC) and 300-320 m / 328-350 yds in the Contrasting Colour (CC).

Sample Yarns: Petit Bout de Laine Sweet’Single SW (100% Merino – 400 m / 437 yds & 100 g per skein), col. Fée Violette (purple, MC) and Sable (brown, CC).

Needles: 4.0 mm / US #6 - at least 80 cm / 32” circular needle to knit the shawl.

Other Notions: 2 stitch markers, tapestry needle.

Châle asymétrique en forme de croissant avec un corps semi-circulaire et une bordure en dentelle tricotée en rangs raccourcis.

Le châle Falling Slowly se débute par le milieu de la bordure supérieure et est tricoté comme un châle semi-circulaire. Son motif en jetés doubles progresse au fil du tricot comme la neige qui tombe pendant une jolie journée d’hiver.

La bordure rayée est réalisée grâce à des rangs raccourcis à l’allemande (German Short Rows). J’ai choisi d’utiliser deux couleurs pour mettre en avant le motif de la bordure mais il est également possible de tricoter ce châle en utilisant une seule couleur et ainsi évoquer la tranquillité des matins d’hiver.
