Two illusion cushions based on the work of M C Escher.

The Horsemen Illusion is based on Escher’s Regular Division of the Plane with Horsemen (1946). It shows two sets of identical horses, one light and one dark, going in opposite directions.

The Birds Illusion is based on Escher’s Regular Division of the Plane with Birds (1949). It shows two sets of interlocking birds.

When you look straight at the cushions you see only stripes. Look from an angle and the pictures are revealed.

It is very difficult to photograph illusion knitting. Some of the photos show the cushions completely flat. When the cushion pads are inside the illusions start to disappear at the edge and come back into view as you move around.

These designs look complicated but if you can knit, purl and count they shouldn’t cause any problems.

The final photograph here is of a sample of Tunisian Crochet done by Tzuru. The fine thread that she has used has created a very well defined illusion.
