Edinburgh Skyline
This pattern was written to celebrate EYF - Edinburgh Yarn Festival. There are many iconic buildings in Edinburgh, it’s hard to choose a handful to put on a hat. If you’re not sure, the buildings are Nelson’s Monument (where they do the 1 o’clock gun), tenement buildings on West Bow, Dugie Stewart’s monument on Calton Hill, St Giles cathedral, The Balmoral Hotel (and North Bridge) and the Scott Monument.
The skyline circles the hat once and the cowl twice. Instructions for both the hat and the cowl are included in the pattern.
This is a geographically inaccurate silhouetted skyline of Edinburgh, encircled by trams, in beautifully soft lambswool spun about 30 miles north of Edinburgh. The colourwork is stranded and there are some quite long flats to carry so be sure you’re comfortable catching floats before you start. To work a larger or smaller hat try larger or smaller needles. Either the hat or cowl can be made from one hank of each colour. The hat is slightly slouchy, omiting the trams will give a snugger ‘beanie’ fit.
The clouds are placed to break up to long stretches of sky colour, you can add more or change the placement to suit.
