These mitts offer a contemporary interpretation of the graphic and striking two-colour gloves traditionally knitted in Dentdale and the Scottish Borders. Ecclefechan is a small Borders town, well-known as the birthplace of historian and satirist Thomas Carlyle, and famed for its tasty tarts, a recipe for which is also included with the pattern.

Yarn:
Jamieson and Smith Shetland Heritage 100 % Real Shetland Wool (25g balls / 110m/ 120yards) in shades coll black and fluggy white. You will need approximately 140 yards of black and 100 yards of white. If you are going up a needle size to increase the circumference of the mitt, remember that you will need more yarn.

You will also need:
2.25mm needle(s), or size to get gauge, in your preferred length for working small circumferences in the round for colourwork pattern.
2mm needle(s), or size below gauge size, in your preferred length for working small circumferences in the round (for garter stitch cuffs and edgings). Stitch markers. Tapestry needle.
