When designing this shawl, I wanted to do something a little different with the body shaping; I combined short rows and decreases to create a shallow half-circle shape that’s interesting to knit whilst also being very easy to wear. The border features a symmetrically-centred cable based on one of my favourite Celtic knots – the sinuous lines remind me of rolling waves, perfectly suited to the marine hues of this yarn.

Also included is a larger semi-circular version of the shawl (not pictured), which features body shaping using only decreases.

Lucy Hague has designed an amazing, swooping shallow shawl. The cabled section is worked first, side to side, and then the garter body is added. Shaping is achieved with short rows. The Celtic knotwork that Lucy loves is shown off beautifully in Ripples Crafts BFL yarn, dyed in an intense and shimmering blue.

This shawl is constructed by working the border first from one side to another, then picking up stitches for the body section and working the body upwards to the neck edge from the border. The body section is shaped by a combination of decreases and short rows. The border section also includes some short rows to help it curve around the shape of the body.

The border begins by increasing out from one point, then setting aside some stitches on waste yarn (these stitches are later picked up and incorporated into the neck edge of the body section); the other end of the border includes a provisional cast-on of stitches (to match the neck-edge stitches set aside previously at the beginning of the border), and then the border is decreased to a point.
