Dreamworks
Introductory offer: I usually offer a discount of 20% on the first weekend of publishing (12th/13th of February 2022). However, this time the offer will extend to Monday the 14th because it is Valentine’s Day. So get the pattern for the lower price while you can - no coupon code required.
Dreamworks is an intricate looking yet relatively easy to knit shawl made with two yarns. It is fully reversible. One side will highight Yarn A and the other will highlight Yarn B. Accordingly, you will need two contrasting yarns of the same weight: two solids, one solid or semi solid combined with a color gradient, or two color gradients that go well together as a pair but that are distinctive enough to make out the individual modules – all these combinations work well together.
The amount of yarn you need will of course depend on the tightness of your knitting and the weight of your yarn. You will need about 15-20% more of Yarn B than of Yarn A. The size will depend on the amount of modules you want to knit. Dreamworks is comprised of two parts - a Waxing Part and a Waning Part. Simply knit the Waxing Part until you have reached half of the desired width and length and/or until you have used up to 50% of your yarn. Then continue with the Waning Part. Accordingly you can use any yarn weight and needles you like and knit either a large shawl or a small shawlette.
I prefer to knit a bit tighter with thinner needles and I used 2x 550y/500m of Bilum Loli B53 as Yarn A and 2x 660y/600m of Bilum Loli 12 as Yarn B for a shawl with 89“/226cm length and 25“/64cm depth. I knitted another version usinig 700y/650m of Schoppel Wool Finest “Sand am Meer” as Yarn A and 2x 820y/750m of Schoppel Lace Ball 100 Villa Rosa using two strands at a time to achieve a longer color gradient for a shawl with 70”/178cm length and 22.5”/57cm depth.
Dreamworks is a modular knit but there is no seaming involved as you will join all the modules as you go. You will find graphics that explain the setup plus photo tutorials on all the necessary techniques for joining the modules. All instructions are written and charted. To save paper and ink I have created two individual pdf files. One with the charted and one with the written instructions.
Happy Knitting and happy Valentine’s Day,
Ursa Major
