Fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy will recognise this message from the front of ‘The Book’.

This pattern matches the Life, the Universe and Everything Cushion we produced for the 42nd anniversary of the first broadcast. You could use one on the front, and the other on the back, of a cushion, or use them together as squares for an afghan.

There are two versions of the lettering. One is to be viewed from the side, the other is seen from the bottom. You cannot use one chart for both. They have to be drawn differently.

This particular design is best seen when it is fairly flat. Do not make your cushion too fat. The sideways version is ideally suited to mounting on a board and hanging on the wall.

The two versions look similar from directly in front. The ridges would be vertical in one, and horizontal in the other.

Any yarn can be used. The illusion will still work although a different thickness might change the overall size. I used Stylecraft Special DK in Spice and Walnut. One side of the cushion needs about 80 metres of each colour.
