Pendle Witch Illusion
or buy at Payhip or LoveCrafts.
The area of Lancashire where we live is known as the Borough of Pendle. It is in the shadow of Pendle Hill. It is famous for the Pendle Witch Trials which took place exactly 400 years ago (1612). Nine women and one man were executed, by hanging, after being found guilty of witchcraft.
This seemed a good time for creating an illusion of a witch. The particular image I have used is similar to one that is very familiar in the Pendle area. It can even be seen on the buses here.
The panel could be used as a wall-hanging or as a section of an afghan. It can be made in any yarn. When knitted tightly in DK yarn it measures approximately 50 cm (20”) square.
The pattern includes several versions of the chart including one intended for mobile devices.
Pendle Witch Illusion is also available in an ebook When shall we three meet again? along with The Wicked Witch and Witch & Wizard Glove Puppets
The last image is an animation.
