Custom Triyang
Mix & match the triangle shawl sections with each other!!
Use your favorite parts from the Triyang collection patterns, combined with each other and/or with stockinette or garter stitch sections.
If you just like the shape/construction and all you want to make is a garter stitch version, that’s the original Triyang pattern, which you can get by itself!
This pattern is a few things: a re-written version of the Triyang pattern for garter stitch or stockinette stitch (with notes on custom stitch patterns), instructions on how to mix and match the pattern sections from the other collection patterns with each other, and how to mix and match those patterns with plain sections.
So, using this pattern, along with the collection patterns, you’ll be able to:
-
make a custom shawl with 1 part lace, 1 part cables, 1 part colorwork (or any combination of 3 sections)
-
make a custom shawl with 1 or 2 parts plain garter stitch and/or stockinette, plus 1 or 2 parts in lace/cables/colorwork
-
make a shawl in all plain stockinette stitch (instead of garter stitch like the original Triyang pattern)
-
learn how to make mixed-weight stockinette stripes in 1 or more sections, using fingering and bulky weights together (or lace and aran weights)
-
make any size shawl in any weight yarn with a patterned section 2 (the middle) and either garter and/or stockinette top and bottom sections
This pattern is a separate pdf included with the Triyang collection, to be used together with the other patterns in the collection.
If you want to use a collection pattern section (lace, cables, or colorwork) for the bottom and/or top section(s), then you’ll need to use DK-bulky weight yarn and the sizing will be the same as it is for the collection patterns (DK making a small size, bulky making a large size).
If you use garter stitch and/or stockinette stitch in the bottom and top sections, then you can make any size piece in any weight yarn.
The top image shows mockups of how different combinations could look. Make your custom shawl in all the same color for a more subtle mix & match look.
There is a grid of very approximate yardage estimates for each section, for yarn planning, below left.
The sample shown modeled is bulky weight:
-
section 1 is mixed-weight stockinette (instructions included in pattern), in Knit Picks Palette (fingering weight, less than 1 skein used), striped with partial skeins of Patons Classic Wool Roving, Quince & Co. Puffin, Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky (all bulky weight)
-
section 2 is the colorwork pattern from Liy, in Universal Yarn Deluxe Chunky (approx 50 yards used in each color)
-
section 3 is the cable pattern from Vire, in Universal Yarn Deluxe Chunky (2 skeins needed, approx 180 yards used)
